    Dear CSVS Members,

This year as the Annual CSVS Meeting takes place in Banff, members of the CSVS Executive are preparing some activities that may add to the enjoyment of the attendees and their spouses/families in the lead up to and during the main event.   One of these activities will be a 3-day 'pre-meeting’ road cycling tour of the region. As many of you know, this will be the 5th year that a cycling trip such as this has been organized. The Banff region is the quintessential Canadian locale for a bike trip to celebrate the 150th Celebration.

As we get closer to the meeting, details are becoming clear and final preparations are in the works. The busy tourist load with the 150th Celebrations will necessitate reservations to secure accommodations, etc.   With regards to the organization and support of the ride, this is a FULLY SUPPORTED ride by an experienced local guide with extensive tour experience both locally and internationally. We have had personal experience with this individual and can attest to his professionalism and skill.

The planned route will be a shortened version of the ‘Golden Triangle’ between Castle Junction, Radium Hot Springs and Golden BC where we will be treated to stunning views of the Rockies and the Purcell Mountain Ranges.  The full personal and vehicle support allows for cyclists of a range of fitness abilities to participate in the ride. Individuals can ride at the pace they choose and can retire to the support vehicle at any time should their fatigue level necessitate. We hope that this structure will encourage the participation of as many members/spouses as possible.   You will find below some preliminary details of the planned trip….some of these details may change somewhat as we finalize plans but in broad strokes this is how we envisage the trip unfolding.

3-day trip beginning in Banff Monday morning September 11th ending in Banff Wednesday September 13th.

    Includes

    • Three days of van supported cycling
    • Ride snacks, lunches and drinks for three days
    • Two nights (double accommodation) in 3 star hotels.  Single room accommodation may be available for an extra charge.
    • Breakfasts at both hotels
    • A local guide with bike mechanic skills & tools
    • Logistics support

    Not included

    • Transportation to and from Banff for trip start and end
    • Bicycle rentals (can be arranged for an extra charge with enough advance notice)
    • Dinners and alcoholic beverages

Preliminary budgeting suggest $1000-1150 per person, based on double occupancy

The trip will begin on the morning of Monday September 11th, so participants would require hotel accommodations in Banff for Sunday night, September 10th.  For those who would want to participate for only 2 days, the support vehicle could bring those individuals back to Banff on Wednesday morning to allow them to spend the entire day in Banff instead of riding the Bow Valley Parkway from Lake Louise to Banff.

Hope all of you will consider this great experience. Looking for commitment towards the end of the 3rd week of July.   While Christiane Dowsing at info@canadianvascular.ca can forward any of your questions to me please do not hesitate to contact me directly with any questions or clarifications.

Best regards and wishing all of you a fantastic summer,

On June 2, 2015 the CSVS released a list of “Five Things Physicians and Patients Should Question” in Vascular Surgery as part of the Choosing Wisely Canada campaign. The list identifies five targeted, evidence-based recommendations that can support physicians and patients in making wise choices about their care. Through the Choosing Wisely Canada campaign and the publication of this list, CSVS is helping physicians and patients engage in conversations about potentially unnecessary tests, treatments and procedures, and supporting physician efforts to help patients make smart and effective choices to ensure high-quality care. CSVS joined the campaign because its leadership recognizes that physicians have a professional, moral and ethical responsibility to take the lead in addressing these challenges.
