What is the Quality & Outcomes Committee?

The Quality & Outcomes Committee will ensure that CSVS members are kept aware of important issues in regards to the maintenance of Quality of Care in current Vascular Surgery practice.

Initiatives

Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI)

SVS VQI’s 14 registries contain demographic, clinical, procedural and outcomes data from more than 750,000 vascular procedures performed nationwide and in Canada. Each record includes information from the patient’s initial hospitalization and at one-year follow-up.(https://www.vqi.org/about/)

VQI is an international registry composed of a number of participating centres and regional groups from around the world. Canadian sites together form the Canadian VQI regional group. The CVQI regional group meets regularly to collaborate and share data in an effort to improve outcomes and minimize complications of vascular surgical patients.

Obtaining Closure: Utilizing VQI Data to Obtain Approval for Routine Usage of Perclose ProGlide Devices for EVAR

Summary
Advantages of vascular closure devices compared to cutdown access for endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) have been shown to include early ambulation, decreased OR time and length of hospital stay.  Percutaneous EVAR (pEVAR) has been accepted as the new standard of care over cutdown EVARs (cEVAR) in carefully selected patients.  However, access to Perclose ProGlide (Perclose) vascular closure devices was limited at our centre due to perceived increased cost and required Operational Procurement Evaluations Committee’s (OPEC) approval prior to routine use.  This project highlights the Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) data utilized to obtain OPEC approval for Perclose usage.
